Prospect House — Where History Refuses to Rest
Standing on Doncaster Road in Mexborough, Prospect House is an imposing Victorian building with a history stretching back into the 19th century.
Once known as Ash Mount, the property has witnessed generations of changing lives, and its past holds stories as intriguing as the building itself.
In May 1903, the body of former resident Arthur Cockayne Meggitt was discovered in a pond near the old Bone Mill at Denaby, following his disappearance from home. A prominent local businessman and former member of the Mexborough Local Board, his untimely death was reported in the local press, with a coroner's inquest subsequently announced.
But it isn't simply the building's history that has attracted attention.
Whispers from Within
Over the years, Prospect House has developed a reputation for unexplained occurrences.
Previous visitors and paranormal investigators have reported footsteps in apparently empty rooms, mysterious knocking and tapping sounds, doors opening or closing without an obvious explanation, and sudden changes in temperature.
There have also been accounts of unexplained figures, including a mysterious male presence and figures seen around the staircases.
Others have described unusual responses from investigation equipment and unexpected physical sensations while exploring the property.
Are these simply the sounds and shadows of an ageing Victorian building? The power of suggestion? Or could there be something more behind the stories that surround Prospect House?
When the lights go down and the investigation begins, what will Prospect House reveal?
